Savoie Mont Blanc, nordic sports country

Savoie and Haute-Savoie’s glorious countryside provides a dream setting for all Nordic sports.

With 78 mountain resorts and four of France’s top ten Nordic ski areas, Savoie Mont Blanc is the ideal destination for a multitude of winter activities. There’s cross-country skiing, of course, with hundreds of kilometres of trails through fairy-tale forests and over sunny plateaus. But there’s also snowshoeing — the perfect way to enjoy the muffled silence of the unspoilt winter landscape, Nordic walking — a brisk but gentle activity, and dogsledding, which offers a taste of the far north, whether you opt for a simple sled ride or try your hand as an apprentice musher. Not forgetting biathlon, a sport in the ascendant that is becoming all the rage. Today, around 40 resorts provide introductory lessons, so newcomers can try this complete sport, which combines athleticism with concentration. And even kids can enjoy biathlon, thanks to the introduction of laser rifles.

Savoie Mont Blanc takes great pride in the major sports events it hosts, so the entire region will revel in the excitement of the 2021 BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup, from 13 to 19 December, and cheer on the French team.

Passion for skiing and the outdoors

With 112 resorts – from traditional villages to high-altitude ski-in/ski-out resorts – and the world’s largest ski area, Savoie Mont Blanc is the ski destination par excellence, where beginners and experts alike can ski to their heart’s content.

In this outdoor sport Eldorado, almost every activity, from the most extreme to the most accessible, can be enjoyed throughout the year, on land, on water and in the air. With a National Park, two regional parks, 18 nature reserves and 4 great lakes, Savoie Mont Blanc is a destination where nature reveals all its riches and diversity and where everyone can soak up the benefits of the mountains.
