The Conseil Départemental, a key player in Nordic skiing in Haute-Savoie

Haute-Savoie is an emblematic territory for Nordic skiing, and the Conseil Départemental is committed to promoting this sport through ambitious initiatives. Since 2021, the emphasis has been on accessibility, innovation and passing on the values of cross-country skiing.

A policy committed to Nordic skiing
The Haute-Savoie department actively supports the Nordic Plan, a programme designed to modernise the infrastructure of the department’s 25 Nordic ski areas. Thanks to this plan, ski resorts are benefiting from renovations and new equipment, including modernised rental areas and inclusion initiatives such as wheelchairs accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Supporting the younger generation
Every year, the Savoir Skier scheme gives nearly 11,000 secondary school pupils the opportunity to discover cross-country skiing. This educational support is accompanied by training courses, such as the P’tits pisteurs course, which introduces young people to mountain professions and first aid. These projects encourage cohesion and raise awareness among the young people of Haut-Savoie of the richness of their natural heritage.

Haute-Savoie Nordic Team: champions at your side
The département is also a partner of the Haute-Savoie Nordic Team, an elite cross-country skiing and biathlon team. These athletes, ambassadors for the region, shine on the national and international circuits while taking part in local educational events.

Nordic skiing for all
In 2024-2025, an awareness-raising campaign will encourage people to share the Nordic areas and respect the rules of the areas. This initiative is aimed at both experienced skiers and beginners, reinforcing the message that Nordic skiing is a team sport, accessible and respectful of the environment.

The Conseil Départemental is asserting its key role in promoting Nordic skiing that reinforces the sporting and natural identity of Haute-Savoie.
