BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup: between collective fever and sporting success

THE BIATHLON WORLD MET UP AT ANNECY LE GRAND-BORNAND…

The French home of the Biathlon World Cup, for which it has already organised five successful rounds in 2013, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022, all marked by growing media and popular success, Annecy-Le Grand-Bornand – already in the top 5 of the world’s most beautiful stages – seems to have confirmed its status as a ‘favourite’ event for both the public and the athletes with this 6th edition, despite the dreadful conditions…

…WITH RECORDS TO MATCH!

With over 67,000 spectators (including 3,500 schoolchildren invited by the Haute-Savoie Department and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region respectively) packed into the Sylvie Becaert stadium since Thursday, the Bornand stage has smashed its previous attendance record, set in 2019 when just over 63,000 tickets were issued. This success was confirmed by the exceptional audience figures for the L’Equipe television channel, particularly during the broadcast of the races.

It has to be said that the French team, despite the pressure of a public renowned for its fervour and enthusiasm, which increased tenfold despite the weather, lived up to expectations, starting with Justine Braisaz-Bouchet‘s triumph in the sprint on Friday, followed on Saturday by a double podium finish by Eric Perrot and Emilien Jacquelin, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the pursuit on Saturday, and Julia Simon, 2nd in the same event in front of a red-hot crowd. Four podium finishes to add to the 18 already achieved in Grand-Bornand by a French team in perfect harmony… not forgetting the “thrill” of Jeanne Richard and her two 4th places, including an anthology finish at the end of the mass start.

We look forward to seeing you there from 16 to 21 December 2025!
